Default Sfo's Bypass Router hosting

i was thinking it would just be nice if sfo had a auto router bypass so everyone would be able to host i may see negative comments about this but think about it hardly their any hosters on sfo so it would be better if sfo can bypass routers so we can host

I don't see why this suggestion would gain negative comments, as there's nothing negative about it. However the theory of it is a little off. With that said, if there's nothing negative then why isn't it a feature within the game? Of course, only if it was that easy to add features into SFO with clicks of several buttons. In reality there are a lot of "objects" in the way to prevent great "things" from occurring, it's just life.

There are a lot of factors to look into in this suggestion, I mean not everyone will have the same router, right? So SFO would have to be compatible to "Auto Bypass" each router, including those brands/manufacturers we've never heard of. Keep in mind, this game was created from scratch by one [incredible/dedicated/generous] man; TMyApp.

I'm more than 100% certain that he would not create the hassle of port-forwarding to host, I mean why add the feature if you can just host naturally? The point is not everyone can host naturally; those with a router. Therefore in order to overcome the "not being able to host" problem, have those people port-forward. If he could add the ability to "Auto Bypass" and host, then he most likely would (of course, not instantly) .

Maybe in the future we'll all have the ability to host, but for now all we can do is port-forward and configure our routers. By the way, this is not a negative rant.

The last comment I like... in the future soon (maybe), we can ALL host SFO if the feature is acceptable...

Or we can all learn how to port forward... it takes like 5 minutes to learn and 10 seconds to actually do it.

For those who didn't understand most of what OB said in his post...
he basically said...

in a peer to peer environment (computer to computer)
no connection can see beyond the router. it is the router who determines the network settings.
and those settings are different for each routers, so there is no way to make an auto-connection to begin with. because it would require thousands and thousands of different combinations.

This is why by todays standard, we don't use PEER to PEER anymore. but this game is old and have to rely on it to work, which makes it the biggest limitation we can have. but as was mentionned by OB, TMyApp did a great job enabling us to host thru a router already.

Hamachi LogMeIn is one of the only alternative methods that can be used to solve your problem.

If your familiar with Sfx, then you would understand that Tmyapp is capable of "bypassing" (All/Most) routers.
The problem with Sfo is that it doesnt run in the same engine and including the same system into Sfo will be very tedious.

In the case that you are either "borrowing" internet or simply can-not follow the easy tutorial on how to host, good luck with Hamachi LogMeIn, it's quite difficult to use. (Requires all players to use and connect.)

haspinwal, your exemple is quite wrong...

SFX = New Unity software using latest player to player technologie. (aka the new per to peer i was speaking about)
SFO = Shockwave 8.5 using the old Peer to Peer that couldn't go thru the routers because back then the information wasn't stored in it.

thats the difference between both of them. you are comparing SFX and SFO on a base that make them unable to even be compared. now if we were to update from shockwave 8.5 to the new flash player 11 or 12, then this problem wouldn'T arise... but then again i heard tmyapp say that the player to player was removed in version 9 which is the version after 8.5... which makes flash games absolutely needing a server to to play online, which tmyapp isn't going to make.

This is the main reason why SFO cannot be upgraded to recent flash player !
damn ADOBE for buying out Macromedia... Macromedia were 100 times better at this...

doesn't anyone see a problem with this? Is it possible that In the near future shockwave 8.5 will be completely outdated and most websites will require a higher upgrade- except SFO.

Other website might need, it, but as long as TMyApp keep the 8.5 files for download and the game is using it, all that will be needed is 8.5.
